Week 55- Feliz Dia de Independencia!

We just got some bits and pieces of chat back and forth, here is what is happening with Ford;
I shall be leaving La Victoria tomorrow.  I´ve been assigned to work in another Campo in the Zone Hainamosa Campo. My new area is called Sabana grande de Boyar and I hear it is more campo (that means Nature, not much urban life) than La Victoria!

I´ve been assigned as district leader and my companion is one of the Zone Leaders, his name is Elder Eleuterio and he is from my group! He´s Mexican. Apparently, the area is a branch and shall have Six missionaries this transfer!
Elder Wolf is staying here and has been assigned as the new district leader! (I´m not surprised, he´s going to be awesome!)
I´m a little nervous about the change but I am also excited, I´m grateful for the new opportunity. I´m gonna miss Elder Wolf, but I´m super happy for him.

I asked him how training works in his mission and why he was being put with a Zone Leader. I also asked him if he is getting headaches, they run in the crazy Fox genes!

President does that. It´s one way he trains. For example, we have a position here called Super Zone leader, former zone leaders who President has called to keep helping out and to train. Elder Allen, he was one this past transfer and was comps with Elder Fuimaono, one of the District Leaders. But it is going to be interesting, but I´m excited. It's a big change. Do I get headaches, not really, maybe when I laugh too hard, Elder Wolf made me laugh a lot this transfer.

I then asked him if it was Independence Day in the Dominican Republic.

Apparently so, but I don´t think it´s going to be too crazy, at least that´s what the bishop's wife told me. But we are returning home a little bit early tonight. We're going to a family home evening tonight at Hermana Elizabeth´s, my convert. She is awesome and I am going to miss her! She and Elder Wolf were conspiring yesterday so I don´t know what´s going down tonight but it´s going to be nice to say goodbye. I´ll be heading out early tomorrow morning, my new area is a few hours away and so I need to head out quick! I´m still not finished packing, my comp says I have a lot of junk, which is true.

Week 54

Hi Family,

So for starters we did service for the Bishop this week. Bishop asked for our assistence in cleaning up a plot of land, so Wedensday morning, armed with our two very rusty machete´s ( carrying a machete around is normal here) we went to chop some weeds. It was a lot of fun, my baby soft hands took a beaten but it was great. I still don´t know how to use a machete super well, I go to town on a little spot for a couple minutes, then my Dominican friend takes my machete and clears the whole section in 30 seconds....I´m going with A for effort!
Thursday morning we went to Haciende Estrellas, on Bicycles. It´s a bit far away and usually we take a gua gua, but we decided to take to the pedals. That took up most of our morning.
Friday we did a companionship exchange with the other missionaries in the district. I went to Los Polmares with Elder Oliveira. It was a good day, a couple appointments fell through so we passed by a number of less actives I knew from my transfer with Elder Rivero. I found out that one brother, Brother Rosado, has started attending church! He and his wife have yet to be sealed so hopefully he´ll keep up the good work so they can get to the temple!
Elder Oliveira is a great missionary, he´s working on learning english and has learned a lot and speaks really well. He might leave the mission field with three languages under his belt, what a blessing.
Saturday we finished the exchange, arriving in La Victoria. Elder Wolf informed me that the keys were inside the house and they were not. So Elder Beard and Elder Oliveira headed back and we awaited the assistence to come open our apartment with the spare key. We tried to study a bit on the apartment steps but ended up talking with the neighbors and ourselves. Eventually, the assistence arrived, opened the door and then left again. Life lesson, have more than one spare key.
That night we had our third English class which was really good. I´ve discovered that I´ve forgotten a lot of English, a lot. It´s been a good relearning experience.

The week has gone by quickly, transfers are next week and I think I might be leaving, but we shall see. I hope you all have a great week!

Week 53-La Familia ordenado de Dios

Dear Family,

This Tuesday we had a first lesson with with a family! La Familia Medina. Cool story as to how we found them. We were visiting some investigators and heard someone singing, very loudly. We asked who was singing, and they told us their neighbor loved to sing and did it a lot. Dear Elder Wolf had to investigate this person so off we went! We introduced ourselves and talked with him a little bit. We asked if we could return and share a message with his family and he accepted. This was a few weeks ago. Tuesday we shared a brief part of the plan of salvation and invited them to read it. Now this is the awesome part. We came back this Saturday for the second lesson. They had read the whole pamphlet as a family! The lesson was awesome; one of the daughters remembered and recited almost the whole lesson. I was a bit stunned. The family loved the message about God´s plan for us. That day the Dad was super interested in the doctrine of the spirit world. He told us he wants to learn more about it when we come back! It was wonderful to see a family that God has prepared to received his gospel. We could see that although this family knew nothing of the gospel, they understand the importance of the family and are already living many of the Lord´s teaching´s in their home. Honestly, it felt no different from my own home. I know the family is something sacred, something ordained of God. Multiple times this week I´ve thought about two things that really brings us happiness. One is the Family; the other is the Gospel of Jesus Christ. These two combined bring us the greatest happiness that we can get here on earth. It´s just like it says in The Proclamation to the world, The Family. Happiness in family life is most likely to be achieved when founded upon the teachings of the Lord Jesus Christ. I am grateful for my family, for the gospel, and for the chance to share both with others.

Hasta Luego!

Week 52- Hola

This is all we got this week:

Hi mom, I hope you're enjoying your early Monday afternoon. Elder Wolf and I are doing good, we had a good week, the rain has returned to La Victoria and Elder Wolf loves it. I´m trying to share his enthusiasm for the change in weather. That´s so awesome that you guys are reading again, I always loved listening to Dad read and I´m sure the boys do too. I´m sorry to hear about Jason, back problems aren´t fun.

I asked him about the district:

The district is doing good. We had a companionship exchange with the Zone Leaders this week and we're planning to do another with Elder Beard and Elder Oliveira this week. Elder Beard and Elder Oliveira are doing good. Elder Marte actually received a special transfer and left last Wednesday. So now it´s just us four.

I do have the most time in the district. I know it´s so crazy, I can´t believe a whole year has gone by. Hey mom, I need to go. Have a good week. I´m sending another photo of us. Love you!
