Week 2- Buenos Dias Mi Familia

I am alive! In case there was any concern. I am well and getting fat on all the Dominican food! Just kidding, my weight hasn’t changed but the food is delicious. It’s been a crazy first week in the CCM, Centro De Capitacion de la Mision, that's what they call the MTC down here! I have been busy busy busy, which is awesome, here we are on the Lord's time and we make good use of it. I'm in a threesome, Elder Lee and Elder Lester are awesome and I have a lot to learn from each of them. That is so cool that you all got to go to Vocal point! Our mission president's son is part of that group but I don't know his name! Maybe it's Kyle :D. Anyways moving on

The rest of last week was basically settling into the way things run here. We rise at 6:30, go eat food, study study study, feel the spirit and then go eat more food. That is the essential pattern of the day and it's great. It's been interesting getting used to having two companions, we have to be within sight and hearing of each other always, Thursday I left the room to go fill my water bottle, I looked over and saw Elder Lester staring at me from the doorway, Oops! But it's been a week and I'm a lot better.

I think it was Thursday afternoon that I met with the President, President Romney is awesome and his wife is crazy awesome. She always has a smile on her face and is ready for life, she's a wonderful reminder of why Presidents need there wives! If he's forgotten anything, she knows, but anyway's she's awesome. Back to President, it was a good interview, he welcomed me to the mission and asked me a couple questions, then I went and told him I was here to work! The next morning the President walked into our Districts classroom. Our whole companionship was called to be assistants and I was called to be the District Leader! Needless to say if you say you'll work, the Lord keeps you busy.

My companions are awesome.  Elder Lester is a Utah boy who is the first missionary in his family.  It sounds like he didn't get a lot of support from home in his decision to serve, but he's pressing forward nevertheless.  He's a very humble missionary and I so appreciate him.  Elder Lee is something else.  Elder Lee is actually from the Spokane area and comes from a family of Nine! Whenever we introduce ourselves everybody asks if we knew one another and were like: Nope. Elder Lee is a giant in spirit and teaching. He keeps track of everything we need to do and helps to break down our planning, ensuring we got everything we need. He kinda gets a little impacient with my shoot from the hip approach but I'm learning! Needless to say he's awesome and I'm learning a lot.

This Sunday was awesome, all the missionaries prepare a talk on the given topic and then president announces who shall be speaking for the meeting! And the talk is in our mission language!....Piece of cake. Just kidding but I did complete my talk but I did not speak. As district leader I'm in charge of leading the District discussion every second hour, the topic is Christlike attributes and I was pretty nervous. But as I sat in Sacrament meeting I got this peaceful feeling that I didn't need to worry. I went to class and opened the discussion on the attribute of Humility, and we had a fantastic discussion. The spirit was in the room and it was awesome. I know that as long as I work hard and trust in the spirit that I will be able to do well. It's not always easy but I'm trying. We watched an awesome devotional this week by Elder Holland. He taught about the importance of Conversion and of opening your mouth. It was awesome.

Elder Ford Call and his District (not sure who's who.)

There's so much that's happened and I don't have enough time for it all but I know that this is where I'm suppose to be. I so grateful for this chance to serve my Savior and draw closer to him. It's crazy to believe that at last I'm out here, that it is my turn to serve and to literally bear the name of Christ upon my Chest. I pray for the strength to serve with all my heart and mind so that I might the best missionary I can be!

I love you all, and thank you for your prayers.

Love, Elder Call!

His Duty Begins! WEEK 1

Hello everyone!
So the past 24 hours have been crazy but I am now in Santo Domingo! I met two other missionaries at the Atlanta airport, a Sister Kohlert and an Elder Lee. We flew out together, however each of us sat in different parts of the plane. I had a good discussion with a gentlemen and gave him a pass along card, however, after having a couple cups of whiskey throughout the flight, I don't know how much of our conversation he'll remember, but that's okay! We got through customs alright and met up with another Sister and Elder. It. Is. HOT! The humid air hit me like a wall, but thankfully the air conditioning at the MTC works great! It was super crazy driving through Santo Domingo, the ocean is beautiful and everything is extremely Latin. As we drove through the city, It hit me pretty hard that I'm serving a mission on a Caribbean island filled with people who don't speak my language! I have been informed that I don't have a P-day this week and after that my P-days are always on Thursday, at least until I get out of the MTC.
The temple is beautiful. Both the temple and the MTC are within a walled complex, which is super cool. The MTC is snug but very nice. The Sister's were immediately bombarded by the other sisters upon exiting the van. Come to find out, I and the other two elders who flew in today are the only American missionaries. There's four or five Haitian Elders and they speak Creole or French! We are outnumbered by the sisters, who seem to rule the coup and I am now acquainted with Sister Walker!

We all had dinner together which consisted of some great pasta and a burrito with meat in it, I don't know what kind, probably chicken. It was pretty tasty. We have the rest of the evening to ourselves to unpack and stuff. It's 6:41, So were going to get settled. Elder Lee, Elder Lester and myself are rooming together, they will be my companions for three weeks and then we will be paired with the native Elders who will arrive in three weeks time!

President, Sister Romney and Ford (MTC President)

It was a long trip and I'm so glad to finally be here!
I love you all and shall talk to you next week!
